Tech blog Gizmodo published a funny "review" of the unseen, unconfirmed iPhone 5, complete with this video of a mockup, built with rumored specs.
By Wilson Rothman
The tech blog Gizmodo decided to get out in front of the iPhone 5 reviewer pack by running a review of the product now. Yes, it's live here, right now. Forget that Apple's chosen reviewers may not even have units yet ... the product hasn't even been announced!
It starts, as many a Gizmodo review, with a brief film of the gadget by Woody Allen Yang, done in that sexy shallow depth of field everybody loves right now. Only this time, the gadget of the hour is a humorously ragged non-working mockup, built according to the rumored specs of the iPhone 5. (The guys at Gizmodo gave us permission to run Woody's video above.)
Absurdity of the video aside, the written "review" of the unseen, unconfirmed product itself, by Sam Biddle, will soon prove to contain kernels of truth. After all, there is much that is either known ? such as the corresponding launch of the new iPhone OS, iOS 5 ??and much that is taken as a given: slimmer size, larger screen, 8-megapixel camera, dual-core processor.
Gizmodo isn't on the list of Apple's chosen reviewers (because of the iPhone 4 thing and other prior issues), so the review is a bit of a self-conscious laugh at its own outsider status.
But?? SPOILER ALERT!???Biddle's conclusion is a pre-emptive strike against all of the reviews that will inevitably come to the same decisions when reviews really do appear, one to two weeks from now:
Should I Buy It? Of course you should. The iPhone 5 is an improvement on what is already the best mobile phone ever created. So why wouldn't you jump at the chance?
