Fans of Christopher Guest will be delighted to know that the legendary This Is Spinal Tap helmer will be suiting up to write and direct a new series that's already been picked up by HBO. The series stars Bridesmaids leading man Chris O'Dowd as a man who's just lost his job and his girlfriend, and after inheriting a mysterious box of belongings from a relative that send him on a journey to discover who he is. And of course he meets a plethora of interesting characters along the way.
Already announced are the Christopher Guest regulars such as Fred Willard, Michael McKean, and Ed Begley Jr. Today the news breaks that Nina Conti, Tom Bennett, and Sundance "It Girl" Amy Seimetz have all joined the series as regulars. Seimetz will play a bookstore owner who is also an aspiring writer that O'Dowd's character meets in Los Angeles.
Amy Seimetz has been kicking around in the independent film world for what seems like forever now, very often playing strong but damaged women in everything from Adam Wingard's A Horrible Way to Die to Lena Dunham's Tiny Furniture. Last year she was singled out in The Hollywood Reporter as one of the breakouts of the Sundance film festival for her leading role in Megan Griffiths' The Off-Hours. She was featured opposite Brit Marling, Felicity Jones, and Elizabeth Olsen.
Seimetz is also a writer and a director. Her feature length directorial debut Sun Don't Shine won the grand jury prize at South By Southwest this year, and just this week was nominated for a Gotham Award.
