Discover The Thrills and The Rewards Of Being A Teacher

Today you have a chance - a chance to make future leaders, industry giants, artists, musicians, literary geniuses, heroes and heroines, and standout citizens of the world. While a parent can certainly encourage such goals, it is the teacher that spends more hours in the day with a child, which then leads to a greater chance of making an impact. Beyond educating students about maths, physics, chemistry, foreign languages, and every other required subject, teachers mould young minds. The great ones become a catalyst for change. How would you like to change someone else's life today?

There are many career opportunities for teachers. You can begin as a teaching assistant or a replacement teacher. You can teach in primary schools or at secondary level. You can teach the arts or academic subjects like physics or maths. You can train while being paid in a teaching role. You can even choose to start off with an education course at the university or decide later on to shift from your current career to the teaching profession. Engineers are particularly valuable in the teaching workforce because of their mastery of difficult subjects like maths and chemistry.

The teaching profession is actually open to opportunities for "testing the waters", as it were. If you find yourself ambivalent about taking a teaching course, you can seek advice and gain insights through the Teaching Advocate Programme. The Teaching Advocate Programme lets you speak with a teaching advocate who can answer any enquiries you have about life as a teacher. You can find out about the day-to-day challenges, the workload you can expect, the rewards you are entitled to, and the many interesting experiences you can have.

Aside from speaking to a teacher about his or her personal experiences, you can also apply for the School Experience Programme (SEP). The SEP is designed for would-be teachers who may want to focus on subjects like maths, physics, chemistry, and modern foreign languages at the secondary level. The programme will place you in a host school where you will be able to observe a classroom for a maximum of ten days. You can also take part in preparing the lesson plan and maybe even deliver part of the lesson.

Alexander the Great once said, "I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well." Mould armies of great minds and personalities yourself. Change the course of many lives. Teach and inspire today.
