The Advancements Of Modern Mobile Phones | Colon Cleansing ...

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Learn how the modern cell phone got to what it is now by comparing it with its past versions. Be able to choose wisely from the current popular mobile phones by knowing the multitude of features these phones have.

Communication has quickly evolved over the years. The telephone reached great heights but there was one thing that was holding it back. This was because of being connected to a phone line at all times, making it impossible to bring around wherever you may go. Thus the invention of the mobile phone, otherwise termed as cellular phone or cell phone for short.

Mobile phones definitely made a splash upon their release to the public. No longer were people unable to leave their home phones in order to get calls from others. They would bring their mobile phones anywhere with a signal coverage to make and receive urgent phone calls or even just have a chat. Having a mobile phone is a luxury. After all, people enjoy chatting. Earlier versions of mobile phones enabled the user to call another mobile phone user anytime and anywhere. It was that convenient.

Soon, newer mobile phones were developed to further enhance communication. These cell phones had Short Messaging Service, or SMS, which allowed cell phone users to compose written texts and send them to others, who in turn can read these messages on their cell phone screen. This revolutionized a whole new communication trend.

The parts of communication involve a sender, a message, and a receiver. Modern phones with text messaging capabilities accurately abide by this principle. The only factor different with traditional communication to text messaging is that traditional conversations integrate feelings with their messages. Whenever a person speaks, his/her voice, tone, and pitch can be methods to express his/her feelings. With text messaging, the message is purely bland, although later on people developed styles of creating emoticons, which are basically a group of letters, numbers, or symbols illustrating faces expressing different emotions.

Mobile phones shortly developed Multimedia Messaging Service or MMS which allows the sending and receiving of pictures, videos, and music files. Soon, a multitude of other features were added as well, including GPRS, WAP, and EDGE, which were basically used to access the internet through the mobile phone.

With the addition of cameras, integrated MP3 players, and wireless connectivity such as infrared and Bluetooth technology, mobile phones were slowly turning into versatile multimedia devices. They rival even the functionality of the digital camera, and MP3 player. No wonder sales of these devices faltered while the sales of cell phones increased dramatically.

Cell phones are evolving faster every time. The current selection of mobile phones mostly incorporates 3G technology and wireless internet access. Other than the usual text messaging and voice calls, you now have the ability to view the person you are talking to with this 3G technology. Talk about a huge leap in the field of communication!

If you plan on buying a popular cell phone, take time to learn the variety of selections first. There are basically three types of cell phones in the market today. The first is the basic budget handset. It has all the basic functions you can expect from a mobile phone, minus the flashy gadgets and functions. They are basically plain and simple text and call mobile phones. The second is the multimedia phone. It still has the basic text and call feature, along with hardware peripherals such as cameras, wireless connectivity and more powerful speakers for music. Some also have built in radio as an added feature. The third type of cell phone is the smart phone. It is usually aimed for those business people on the go. The features include a full QWERTY keypad, named after the first sequence of letters in the computer keyboard. The smart phone has all the advanced features considering its very expensive cost. These features include wireless internet connection and browsing, email, and various applications that enable the user to view documents that can only be normally viewed using a computer.

With this selection in mind, you may want to reflect on what cell phone category you want to choose. First, consider your budget. Do you have the adequate finances to buy a brand new popular cell phone? Then, you should think about how you will use the cell phone. Do you find yourself actually needing those extra features in your everyday life? Do you actually need wireless internet connection on the go if you are already retired for instance? But don't think poorly of this functionality. For example, if you are a typical student, you can use your cell phone for convenient web browsing. This would save you a lot of time. Therefore, it is wise to think it over before buying.

Part of what drives you to buy these popular cell phones would probably be due to the appeal of these gadgets to the general public. They are definitely eye candy. These gadgets are currently one of the luxurious items that everyone craves. Mobile phones are now established as status symbols in society. The newer the cell phone, the more popular you become. The more expensive the cell phone, the richer they regard you.

There is no great mobile phone. It is the perspective of the buyer that makes it so. There are so many phones that cater to different people with different statuses. What's great for one group of people may not be great for another. Choose whatever phone you feel right for you.

Today, there are more people owning cell phones than people having regular phone lines at home. This speaks well to the mobile phone market. It is expected that mobile phones will still be a popular luxury for a long time.

Powerful Alabama Congressman Bachus survives tough primary

MOBILE, Alabama (Reuters) - Powerful Alabama Congressman Spencer Bachus overcame aggressive campaign ads and allegations of insider trading to beat his Republican challengers by a wide margin in Tuesday's primary contest.

Bachus, a 10-term incumbent who chairs the U.S. House committee overseeing financial regulation, won the more than 50 percent of the vote needed to proceed to the general election.

His total far exceeded the votes earned by his top opponent, state Senator Scott Beason, who gained notice as a chief architect of Alabama's crackdown on illegal immigration.

While most of the attention was focused on the Republican presidential primary fights in Alabama and Mississippi on Tuesday, the two states also voted for a host of state and local offices.

Bachus survived the unusually tough primary fight despite being the focus of an Office of Congressional Ethics investigation over insider trading allegations.

The representative has denied accusations that he timed personal financial decisions to capitalize on information collected while performing his congressional duties. Congress recently passed a law forbidding insider trading by its members.

Bachus spent more than $1.5 million combating attacks by the Texas-based, anti-incumbent Campaign for Primary Accountability Super PAC, which on Beason's behalf called for voters to recognize the state senator as the "true conservative."

"We overcame a lot of big money," Bachus told Reuters. "They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars distorting my record, but the voters of the 6th District didn't go for it."

Republican U.S. Congressmen Jo Bonner and Mo Brooks also survived primary challenges, with each winning more than half the votes in his respective district.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who once refused to remove the Ten Commandments from a state courthouse, was leading the three-way race for the Republican nomination for his former office late Tuesday. Moore was booted from the chief justice post in 2003 because of the controversy over the Ten Commandments decision.

In neighboring Mississippi, congressional incumbents coasted past primary opponents on Tuesday.

Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker walloped two little-known challengers and will face a Democrat named Albert Gore in the general election. Gore is not related to the former U.S. vice president by the same name.

Three Republican U.S. House members -- Alan Nunnelee, Gregg Harper and Steven Palazzo -- beat Tea Party candidates who accused the incumbents of not being conservative enough.

Longtime U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, the lone Democrat in Mississippi's congressional delegation, also sailed past his opposition.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) ? An Afghan youth recounted on Monday the terrifying scene in his home as a lone U.S. soldier moved stealthily through it during a killing spree, then crouched down and shot his father in the thigh as he stepped out of the bedroom.

The soldier, now in U.S. custody, is accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians in their homes in the middle of the night between Saturday and Sunday and then burning some of their corpses. Afghan President Hamid Karzai said nine of those killed were children and three were women.

"He was walking around taking up positions in the house ? in two or three places like he was searching," said 26-year-old witness Mohammad Zahir, who watched the gunman while hiding in another room. "He was on his knees when he shot my father" in the thigh, he told The Associated Press. His father was wounded but survived.

Even before the shootings, anti-Americanism was already boiling in Afghanistan over U.S. troops burning Muslim holy books, including Qurans, last month on an American base. The burnings came to light soon after a video purporting to show four Marines urinating on Taliban corpses was posted on the Internet in January.

Now, another wave of anti-foreigner hatred could threaten the entire future of the U.S.-led coalition's mission in Afghanistan. The recent events have not only infuriated Afghanistan's people and leaders, but have also raised doubts among U.S. political figures that the long and costly war is worth the sacrifice in lives and money.

Zahir recounted the harrowing scene in his family home when the soldier came in before dawn.

"I heard a gunshot. When I came out of my room, somebody entered our house. He was in a NATO forces uniform. I didn't see his face because it was dark," he said.

Zahir said he quickly went into another room in the house, where animals are penned.

"After that, I saw him moving to different areas of the house ? like he was searching," he said.

His father, unarmed, then took a few steps out of his bedroom door, Zahir recalled.

"He was not holding anything ? not even a cup of tea," Zahir said. Then he fired.

"My mother was pulling my father into the room. I put a cloth on his wound," he said.

After the gunman left, Zahir said he heard gunshots near the house again. He stayed in hiding for a few minutes to make sure he was gone.

The shooting rampage unfolded in two villages near a U.S. base in southern Kandahar province. An enraged Karzai called it "an assassination, an intentional killing of innocent civilians" that cannot be forgiven. He demanded an explanation from Washington.

Tensions between Afghanistan and the United States rocketed last month after word of the Quran burnings got out. President Barack Obama said the burnings were a mistake and apologized.

But the strains had appeared to be easing as recently as Friday, when the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding about the transfer of Afghan detainees to Afghan control ? a key step toward an eventual strategic partnership to govern U.S. forces in the country.

In Afghanistan's parliament on Monday, however, lawmakers called for a halt to negotiations on the strategic partnership document until it is clear that soldier behind the shooting rampage is facing justice in Afghanistan.

"We said to Karzai: If you sign that document, you are betraying your country," said Shikiba Ashimi, a parliamentarian from Kandahar. "The U.S. should be very careful. It is sabotaging the atmosphere of this strategic partnership."

Still the public response to the shootings so far has been calmer than the six days of violent protests and clashes that erupted after Qurans were burned at Bagram Air Field. There were no signs of protests Monday.

Afghan forces also turned their guns on their supposed allies in the aftermath of the Quran burnings, killing six U.S. troops.

The Taliban vowed revenge. It also claimed responsibility for several attacks last month that the group said were retaliation for the Americans burning Qurans.

The al-Qaida-linked militant group said in a statement on their website that "sick-minded American savages" committed the "blood-soaked and inhumane crime" in a rural region that is the cradle of the Taliban and where coalition forces have fought for control for years.

U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan have stepped up security following the shootings out of concern about retaliatory attacks. The U.S. Embassy has also warned American citizens in Afghanistan about the possibility of reprisals. As standard practice, the coalition increased security following the shootings out of concern about retaliatory attacks, said German Brig. Gen. Carsten Jacobson, a coalition spokesman.

The suspect in the shootings, who is in U.S. military custody, is a staff sergeant who has been in the military for 11 years. He is married with two children. He served three tours in Iraq and began his first deployment to Afghanistan in December, according to a senior U.S. official.

He is from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and was assigned to support a special operations unit of either Green Berets or Navy SEALs engaged in a village stability operation, said a U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still ongoing. Special operations troops pair with local residents chosen by village elders to become essentially a sanctioned, armed neighborhood watch.

Two U.S. defense officials said an investigation has been started by the Army Criminal Investigation Division, but that it was too soon to say when any charges might be filed. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the issue.

The Afghan Defense Ministry said the gunman left the base in Panjwai district and walked about one mile (1,800 meters) to Balandi village. Villagers described how they cowered in fear around 3 a.m. as gunshots rang out and the soldier roamed from house to house, firing on those inside. They said he entered three homes in all and set fire to some of the bodies after he killed them.

Eleven of the 12 civilians killed in Balandi were from the same family. The remaining victim was a neighbor.

From Balandi, the gunman walked roughly one mile to the village of Alkozai, which was only about 500 meters from the American military base. There the gunman killed four people in one house and then moved to Zahir's house, where he shot his father in the leg.

U.S. officials said initial reports indicated that the soldier returned to his base after the shootings and turned himself in.

Some Afghan officials and local villagers expressed doubt that a single U.S. soldier could have carried out all the killings and burned the bodies afterward.

"It is not possible for only one American soldier to come out of his base, kill a number of people far away, burn the bodies, go to another house and kill civilians there, then walk at least 2 kilometers and enter another house, kill civilians and burn them," said Abdul Rahim Ayubi, a lawmaker from Kandahar province who visited the area on Monday.

Some villagers also told officials there were multiple soldiers and heard shooting from different directions. But many others said they only saw a single soldier.

Lt. Col. Jimmie Cummings, another spokesman for the coalition, insisted there was only one gunman.

"There's no indication that there was more than one shooter," he said.

Agha Lalia, member of the Kandahar provincial council who is from Panjwai district, said he talked to two people who were injured in the shooting at a hospital at Kandahar Air Field, where they are being treated by coalition medical personnel. Both said they only saw one soldier shooting.

The Sweet Life: The Baby Shower.

Baby is almost here!

On Saturday we celebrated Nellie and her baby boy with the best baby shower. A family friend was kind enough to open up her beautiful home on the river to our party and it was a great day with all the girls! And let me tell ya, our first nephew is going to be one spoiled baby!?

The girls and our baby!

4 Generations: Baby, Nellie, Mom & Grams

The two soon-to-be grandmas!

We put the guys to work!?Dad and his cooking crew, led by?

chef Craig, made chicken marsala, mashed potatoes, asparagus and a?

spring salad for lunch. It was delicious!

Ben's (father of the baby) family was in charge of the decorations and they did such a great job. Everything looked so nice.

For the favors, everyone took home a bag of spring flower seeds

that attract butterflys and hummingbirds.

The jungle animal themed cupcakes were amazing.

The cake topper. We still haven't eaten it... it's too cute!

I was in charge of the entertainment. After lunch I had Nellie disappear for a few minutes while I tested the girls with "What was mommy wearing." ?We did a "Fact or Myth" pregnancy test where you had to decide if the statements about pregnancy were true or just a common misconception. Also, I made a baby shower soundtrack that had 20 songs with "baby" in the title on it. (Some of my favorites: "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey, "Baby Love" by the Supremes, and "Baby, Baby, Baby" by TLC). The music was playing throughout the party, so whoever tuned into the music had the advantage in the game "Hit Me Baby One More Time" where the girls had 5 minutes to come up with as many songs with "baby" in the title as they could. The winner had just 8. It was harder than it sounds!

The final game was "dirty diapers." I filled 5 baby diapers with melted candies and baby food that looked like baby poop, and the girls had to smell them to figure out what it was. It was hilarious watching people sniff them!

Dirty Diapers!

A sneak peak inside. Who knew a Snickers bar could look?

so disgusting?

Aunt Cora & grams trying to figure out what the heck was in those diapers!

Mrs. P taking a big whiff!

For those wondering... inside the diapers was melted and mashed up Reese's Peanut Butter cups, Snickers, Almond Joys, 3 Musketeers, and Butternut Squash baby food.

After games, Nellie opened a TON of presents. She got so much cute baby stuff...I can't wait for the little guy to play with everything. And momma Nellie was glowing :)

This will be baby's favorite shirt.

It was a beautiful day with beautiful people waiting on a beautiful baby!

Our little man will be here in 3 weeks!?

Can't wait :)

Canada Pharmacy Shows a Unique Cause of Asthma

?

Kids who were exposed to mold during infancy were thrice more vulnerable to develop asthma. Exposure to household mold as infants critically increases a child's risk of getting asthma.? As such, parents need generic Advair to treat such sickness.

Study researchers examined seven years of information gathered from 176 kids who were monitored from babyhood as section of the Cincinnati Childhood Allergy and Air Pollution Study. The kids were identified at high threat of acquiring asthma due to family medical history.

By age 7, 18 percent of the kids acquired asthma.? Kids who lived in houses with mold at some stage in their infancy were thrice more likely to acquire asthma by age 7 compared to those who did not come in contact with mold when they were babies.

"Early life exposure to mold seems to play a critical role in childhood asthma development," lead author Tiina Reponen, a professor of environmental health at the University of Cincinnati, stated in a university news release.

"Genetic factors are also important to consider in asthma risk, since infants whose parents have an allergy or asthma are at the greatest risk of developing asthma." Thus, to buy Advair might be necessary to treat asthma attacks.

"This study should motivate expectant parents, especially if they have a family history of allergy or asthma, to correct water damage and reduce the mold burden in their homes to protect the respiratory health of their children," Reponen added.

In general, about 9 percent of school-aged kids in the United States acquired asthma, but study has exposed that frequencies are above what is usual among kids in poor, urban families.? It is also shown that they visit CanadaDrugsOnline.com more often.

Asthma is defined by the Global Initiative for Asthma as "a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in which many cells and cellular elements play a role. The chronic inflammation is associated with airway hyperresponsiveness that leads to recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing particularly at night or in the early morning. These episodes are usually associated with widespread, but variable airflow obstruction within the lung that is often reversible either spontaneously or with treatment".

Asthma is clinically classified according to the frequency of symptoms, forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), and peak expiratory flow rate. Asthma may also be classified as atopic (extrinsic) or non-atopic (intrinsic), based on whether symptoms are precipitated by allergens (atopic) or not (non-atopic).

While asthma is classified based on severity, at the moment there is no clear method for classifying different subgroups of asthma beyond this system. Finding ways to identify subgroups that respond well to different types of treatments is a current critical goal of asthma research.

Although asthma is a chronic obstructive condition, it is not considered as a part of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as this term refers specifically to combinations of disease that are irreversible such as bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Unlike these diseases, the airway obstruction in asthma is usually reversible; however, if left untreated, the chronic inflammation from asthma can lead the lungs to become irreversibly obstructed due to airway remodeling. In contrast to emphysema, asthma affects the bronchi, not the alveoli.

Caregivers Find an Ally in Graying Baby Boomers | EQUAL VOICE

Kathy Mulady | Equal Voice News

Kassandra Gonzalez has worked in fields picking strawberries and grapes, in a fish processing plant, and as a cook. But it wasn?t until she began working as a home caregiver that she feared for her health.

Organizers gathered in Seattle recently to learn more about a grassroots campaign to transform long-term and in-home care as millions of baby boomers begin aging. (Photo by Kathy Mulady)

One afternoon, while taking out the trash, Gonzalez felt a stab in her thigh. Looking down, she saw a needle jutting though the plastic bag she was carrying ? and drops of blood on her leg from the puncture. ?The house where Gonzalez was hired to clean and care for the ailing owner had hypodermic needles everywhere, on tables, countertops and dropped carelessly into wastebaskets.

?I want to do this work. I want to bring comfort to people who are struggling and to help those in need,? said Gonzalez. ??I am terrified of getting sick or getting an infection ? I don?t have health insurance,?

Many home care workers make less than minimum wage, receive no overtime pay and have no paid sick days, health coverage or unemployment compensation should they be let go.

?I never felt as exploited as I do as a home caregiver,? Gonzalez said.

As the baby-boomer generation ages ? one turns 65 years old every eight seconds ? the gap between those needing affordable care and the workers available to provide that care is projected to reach crisis proportions. By 2040, about 27 million Americans will need care. There are fewer than 3 million home care workers now, more than 1 million of which work for near-poverty wages.

?It?s a social time bomb,? said Nick Licata, a Seattle city councilman who has found himself on both ends of the equation, needing care for a parent with Parkinson?s Disease, and for a young adult stepson who suffered a brain injury when he was hit by a bus.

Domestic workers like Gonzalez help fill a critical gap, caring for the well-being of our children, spouses and grandparents, but without a safety net for themselves. The vast majority are women; most are immigrants. They are often vulnerable and have few other options for work.

A national movement, Caring Across Generations, hopes to change those grim realities. The campaign proposes transforming the nation?s approach to long-term care in ways that will provide affordable, quality care for the elderly and disabled, a path to economic stability for immigrants, and stimulation for the economy.

The campaign aims to improve access to home care through Medicare and Medicaid; create two million new, living wage home care jobs; increase training opportunities and promote career-advancement, as well as create a visa category and path to citizenship for those who participate in home care training.

The campaign also calls for compensation and support ? including social security credits ? for family members who leave their jobs to care for a spouse, parent or disabled child.

So far, the effort has attracted a diverse group of supporters: senior citizen groups and immigration reform advocates, labor unions and people with disabilities.

The baby-boom generation is used to having its own way, and they still wield considerable influence. They are the generation that opposed the Vietnam War. They fought for civil rights, equal rights, and social justice. Now they are ready to fight for quality care for themselves ? and fair working conditions for their care givers.

?Our supporters are diverse but inter-dependent. We really need each other in this movement,? said Jodeen Olguin-Tayler, campaign director with the National Domestic Workers Alliance.

Jeanette Wenzl of Seattle attended the grassroots "care congress" in Seattle to support worker rights, training, and a path to citizenship for caregivers. (Photo by Kathy Mulady)

Home care is strenuous and stressful. Workers face hazards like the needle that jabbed Kassandra Gonzalez, as well as exposure to household chemicals, risks of burns, and injuries from lifting or falls.

In most states, employers have no responsibility to cover health insurance for domestic workers and caregivers. According to a December 2010 report issued by the Excluded Workers Congress, just 13 percent of domestic workers employed at least half-time, year-round, have health insurance provided by their employers.

The survey found that 41 percent of workers in private homes aren?t paid minimum wage, and 90 percent of the home care workers weren?t paid overtime.

Proponents say that in-home care will reduce the pressure on Medicare and Medicaid by providing an alternative to expensive convalescent homes and other facilities for the elderly ? who, in many cases, would rather remain in their own homes.

Many are already pointing to momentum building nationally and on the state level.

In December 2011, the U.S. Department of Labor proposed extending federal minimum wage and overtime protection to home care workers ? the basic rights given most other workers under the Fair Labor Standards Act. For decades, home care providers have been exempted from the federal law. The comment period has been extended until March 12.

New York state passed a domestic workers bill of rights in 2010 that sets a 40-hour work week, requires overtime pay, a day off each week, and three days of paid time off after a year?s employment. The state law also entitles domestic workers to temporary disability benefits and unemployment insurance. A few other states and cities are working on similar legislation.

In Washington state, domestic and in-home workers are covered by minimum wage and overtime laws if they are employed regularly, even if ?regularly? is just one or two days a week. They are entitled to overtime if they work more than 40 hours a week. However, in Washington state, the minimum wage law may not apply if you live or sleep at your place of employment.

Kassandra Gonzalez, who lives in Washington state, said employers often ask her to do extra tasks or work longer hours, but then refuse to pay her what she is owed. Once, when she asked an employer for the additional pay, she was simply told: ?It?s your word against mine.?

That?s not necessarily true, said Elizabeth Smith at the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.

?We look at everything on a case by case basis,? said Smith.? ?If you are employing someone regularly in your home, then you need to act like a real employer; that includes good record-keeping and paying at least minimum wage.?

In Washington, the department of Labor and Industries provides workers? rights information on its website, public presentation, and Know Your Worker Rights advertisements in Spanish-language newspapers and radio stations around the state.

A recent Caring Across Generations event in Seattle drew 200 representatives from diverse organizations. Similar events are planned in cities throughout the country in coming months, including Miami, New York, Boston and Chicago.

?Caregivers are among the hardest working people,? said Jeanette Wenzl of Seattle, who attended the event. Wenzl worked as a nurse for 46 years and is now retired.

?They really deserve our support and to be paid a living wage, benefits, and get better job training ? and they need a pathway to citizenship,? said Wenzl.

Analysis: Once again, Romney wins just enough

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mitt Romney survived another near-death campaign experience, but a narrow win in Ohio and five other "Super Tuesday" victories did little to ease doubts about the shaky front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Romney's close triumph over Rick Santorum in Tuesday's marquee match-up in Ohio was just good enough: It moved him one step closer to the Republican nomination and averted a dramatic reshuffling in the race to decide who will take on Democratic President Barack Obama in the November 6 election.

But the narrow margin of victory in Ohio and decisive losses in the South showed that Romney is falling short in his efforts to appeal to conservatives, evangelical Christians and blue-collar voters in a Republican race that now seems certain to last into late April or beyond.

And for Romney, the next few weeks aren't likely to bring much good news. The next contest in the state-by-state nomination race is a caucus on Saturday in conservative Kansas, where Santorum -- a social conservative who emphasizes his Catholic faith -- is expected to do well.

Next Tuesday the campaign moves to the conservative South, where Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, has not performed well. Mississippi and Alabama will hold primaries that day.

Tuesday's results gave Romney's rivals a reason to continue in the race: Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, won Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Dakota, while Newt Gingrich, a former U.S. House speaker, won Georgia.

However, Romney is continuing to pile up a lead in state delegates whose support is needed to win the nomination. In a sense, he has become like a boxer who can't score a knockout, but who is gradually winning his fight on points.

"The good news for Romney is that he is still the front-runner," said Republican Dan Schnur, an aide to John McCain's unsuccessful campaign for the presidency in 2000. "The bad news is that the doubts about his candidacy are only going to grow stronger."

Aside from Ohio, Romney also won in Massachusetts, where he was governor, and Vermont, Virginia, Alaska and Idaho, solidifying his lead in the race for the 1,144 party delegates needed to win the nomination.

But exit polls in Ohio showed that Romney, a former private equity executive, made no gains with blue-collar and conservative voters despite a renewed focus on resurrecting the economy and creating jobs.

Just 22 percent of Ohio voters thought Romney was the candidate who best understood their problems, compared with 31 percent who said Santorum did.

Romney, who in recent weeks has referred to his wife Ann's two Cadillacs and to his friendship with NASCAR team owners, is losing ground on the issue. When he won the Florida primary a month ago, 34 percent of voters in that state thought Romney best understood their problems, according to CNN exit polls.

Romney also lost to Santorum among voters who made less than $100,000 a year and among voters who described themselves as very conservative. He performed slightly better among conservatives when he won Florida a month ago and Michigan last week.

"Romney didn't end any of the doubts about his candidacy or answer any of the questions," Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak said. "Every concern about Romney that existed before tonight continues. And because of that, the race continues."

WINNING WHEN HE NEEDS TO

In Ohio, Romney did prove once again that he can win with his back to the wall.

When he has faced a critical or must-win showdown during the campaign -- in Florida, Michigan and Ohio -- Romney has managed to flex his financial and organizational muscle and pull out wins to regain command of the race.

In Ohio, Romney and the independent "Super PAC" that supports him outspent Santorum by 4 to 1, pummeling the former Pennsylvania senator with television ads that blasted Santorum as a Washington insider. The ads helped to erase what had been a double-digit lead for Santorum in Ohio polls.

Santorum's campaign took solace in making the race in Ohio close despite being outspent significantly. But analysts said that Romney, for all of his struggles in trying to appeal to the party's conservative electorate, has done what he needs to do.

"You win campaigns by what? Raising money and being organized," Republican pollster Steve Mitchell said. "He's winning tough battles in states that are going to be important in the general election."

The last time Romney seemed ready to take control of the race, after his January 31 win in Florida and February 4 win in Nevada, Santorum's victories in Missouri, Colorado and Minnesota days later derailed Romney's momentum and threw the race into disarray.

Romney hopes to avoid a similar reversal on March 20, when he faces another Midwestern showdown with Santorum in Illinois, where Romney's ability to attract blue-collar votes will be tested again.

"For Romney, a win is a win," Quinnipiac pollster Peter Brown said. "Finishing a close second in Ohio is nice for Santorum, but second is second. What's his argument to donors? 'I can finish a close second?' "

Gingrich's win in Georgia ensured he will press on with his campaign, which means he will continue to split with Santorum the votes of conservatives who are seeking an alternative to Romney.

But the victory in Georgia, a state Gingrich represented in Congress, did little to prove he is capable of expanding his appeal beyond the South. And even in the South, Gingrich showed weakness on Tuesday: In Tennessee and Oklahoma, he ran third behind Santorum and Romney.

Santorum's close race in Ohio, and his wins in Tennessee and Oklahoma, showed his heavy focus on social and religious issues did not appear to hurt him in the Republican races, for which social conservatives typically turn out in big numbers.

In Ohio, nearly half of the primary voters identified themselves as evangelical or born-again Christians, and Santorum comfortably won their votes.

Romney closed his campaigns in Michigan and Ohio by focusing heavily on his prescriptions for the ailing economy, and warning that detours into debates over contraception and abortion would hurt the Republican Party's ability to attract independent voters.

CNN's exit polls in Ohio showed a majority of primary voters, 54 percent, viewed the economy as the most important issue. Romney won their votes by 42 percent to 33 percent over Santorum.

A majority of 51 percent also viewed Romney as the most likely to defeat Obama in November, with 24 percent believing Santorum had the best chance to capture the White House.

That was good enough to give Romney a narrow win in Ohio, but not to put Santorum away and begin to wrap up the race.

"Romney clearly has the inside track on the nomination," Mackowiak said. "But he's not closing the deal, and he's not creating any enthusiasm."

HTC Vivid to get ICS in the 'coming weeks', leak available for the brave

HTC Vivid

The HTC Vivid should be seeing Ice Cream Sandwich shortly, and if you're the brave type there's a leak out in the wild you can flash today. When HTC and AT&T announced the HTC One X was coming to AT&T, there was a small part in the press release about the Vivid and it's ICS update, and that's been reinforced today in a press release for a new Beats Audio wireless speaker system exclusive for AT&T. The paragraph reads as follows:

Additionally, an enhanced audio experience will soon be available to HTC Vivid™ customers in the coming weeks.  Sound engineers at Beats Dr. Dre and software engineers at HTC have teamed up to bring an improved audio experience to the HTC Vivid through an upcoming software update that will provide Android 4.0, an updated HTC Sense experience and Beats By Dr. Dre audio profiles.

While "coming weeks" is a pretty vague term, it may be closer that anyone expects. A Vivid user was presented with an OTA update to Ice Cream Sandwich, and had the foresight to capture the file and hand it over to the hacking community. It's been converted to a flashable form, but there's a great big warning attached as it requires a different hboot with no reliable way to get back. Between the few reports of bricked devices, most people say the update is decent, bringing the Vivid to Android 4.0.3 and Sense to 3.6.

If you're the type who has to try things, be sure to read very carefully lest you have a shiny black HTC Vivid to add to the Android bone pile. If you're the more cautious type or haven't rooted your $600 phone (we don't blame you), hopefully you'll be seeing an update soon. In either case, follow along at the links below.

Identifying and Ridding a Home or Building of Silverfish | Home ...

Aptly named due to their shiny, sliver or pearl gray appearance, silverfish are small, wingless insects that can infest a home. These insects are usually 15mm to 25mm in length, and they can cause significant damage to a home or building. The favorite food of the silverfish is carbohydrates. They feed on foods such as sugar, flour, dry cereal, and rolled oats. In addition to food substances, silverfish also consume starches in clothes, glue or paste on paper, and household dust or debris. Silverfish can cause damage to clothes, books, wallpaper and curtains. Identifying these pests and eradicating them can be somewhat complicated due to their nocturnal nature.

The Lifecycle of the Silverfish -

Female silverfish prefer to lay their eggs in places such as crevices or on cloth. They will often bury their eggs in food or dust as well. The temperature will effect how quickly these eggs will hatch. When temperatures are cooler, the eggs of the silverfish can remain dormant for as long as six weeks. When temperatures begin to rise, the eggs will begin to hatch. Generally, silverfish eggs hatch is 32 days or less. Throughout their nymph and adult lives, silverfish prefer warm, damp places. Their ideal temperatures range from 71 degrees up to 90 degrees. However, to survive in hotter environments, silverfish need the relative humidity to be 75 percent or greater. In favorable conditions, silverfish can live up to 3 years. Silver fish can be challenging to eradicate from an infested building or home despite the fact that females only lay eggs in very small batches.

Recommended Silverfish Treatment Methods -

Because silverfish are nocturnal, their presence may be difficult to determine. Retaining the services of a pest control specialist may be necessary. In the event silverfish are found, the most appropriate form of treatment designed to exterminate these pests is either spraying or dusting using chemicals. Chemicals can be applied through surface dusting to areas in which the silverfish will have a tendency dwell or run. For more confined areas, a spray may be more effective. Property owners should endeavour to remove all exposed food sources once the building or home has been treated by a professional pest control company. Routine cleaning as well as dehumidifying and ventilating damp areas can help prevent future silverfish infestations.

If a pest inspection Brisbane reveals that silverfish are invading a home or building, property owners should contact Defence Pest Management http://www.brisbanepestcontrollers.com.au/ for professional and effective pest control Brisbane services.

Amazon Publishing to sell series of ebooks outside the Kindle Store

It remains to be seen if it's a full-on change of policy, but it looks like Amazon is at least shifting it stance when it comes to where some of the ebooks put out by its Amazon Publishing division are sold. As you may recall, Barnes & Noble and other booksellers recently pulled print editions of Amazon Publishing books from their store shelves because the ebook versions were only sold in the Kindle Store, a stance that B&N said "undermined the industry as a whole." Now, Amazon has confirmed that its latest addition to the Amazon Publishing roster, a series of short biographies edited by James Atlas, will indeed be sold outside of the Amazon ecosystem in both print and ebook form. Whether B&N and other bookstores will actually carry them remains to be seen, of course, but an Amazon spokesperson told The New York Times that its "intention is to distribute these books as broadly as possible." That change was further clarified by PaidContent, which was told by Amazon that "the books will be available to be sold everywhere in all formats."
